Bragg Liquid Aminos is such a horrible name for such a delicious product! But I promise you, Bragg is terrific on food. Since I like to keep my cooking preparations simple and fast, Bragg is always close at hand. By the way, for everyone who loves my home-made meals, I will now reveal that this product is my secret sauce.
Here are 9 reasons why I love Bragg Liquid Aminos:
1) Bragg is made of soy protein — and nothing else. It’s gluten-free and sugar-free. There’s no added salt, so it’s not overly salty. This seasoning is a godsend for those of us with special food issues and allergies.
2) My first use for this dark brown liquid was as a soy sauce substitute. By comparison, soy sauce is toxic crap…read the label. Depending on the brand, you’ll find everything from corn syrup, sugar and wheat to alcohol and msg. Disgusting!
3) Bragg adds a special nuance and depth to any dish. It’s a venerable health food specialty item that’s incredibly versatile. I splash Bragg into everything: Soups, meat marinades, sauces and dressings. When I’m cooking just for myself at home, all I usually use is just Bragg and a little olive oil. Sometimes, I don’t even need the oil.
4) Bragg has no calories.
5) This stuff just plain tastes good! Its fans go way beyond the hard-core health crowd. After tasting it at my house, several friends have started using it too.
6) Bragg comes in a little 6-ounce-sized plastic spray bottle that’s very portable. If you’re super-allergic and plan to dine in an Asian restaurant, tote it in your bag. I’ve even packed it in my luggage on long trips.
7) What excellent value! The hefty 32-ounce beauty pictured here will usually run you $7.99 to $8.99 at a health food store. Note to shoppers: Gourmet and special retailers do NOT carry Bragg. But operations like Whole Foods stock plenty of it. For the best prices, go to Bragg.com.
8) Since I detest the major packaged food corporations and their evil empire marketing tricks, I am thrilled to support products made by the Bragg clan. This family-run American business of self-described “health crusaders” has a lively and somewhat eccentric legacy in the world of organic living. Founder Paul Bragg was quite a character.
9) Bragg helps people enjoy once-forbidden flavors again. I have a friend in Alcoholics Anonymous. One day while he and his family were eating over, we were chatting in the kitchen. When he spotted the bottle with the unfamiliar yellow label, I started explaining everything you’re reading here…and he almost started crying. It had been many years since he’d tasted soy sauce on his Chinese takeout. Now he keeps Bragg in his pantry too.
It’s a relief to blog about Bragg. At last, I’m free from constantly describing this good-natured sauce to people who want my recipes. Now you know how this product has helped me through the decades.
So here’s to happy eating and our good health. :)
