This post is about a great recipe. It’s also about the possibility of re-invention. The story begins with Sophie Morgiewicz, 71, the widowed matriarch of Morgiewiecz Farms in upstate Goshen, N.Y. Sophie and her three sons grow tons of vegetables on their 170-acre property, which has been in the family for five generations. Every Saturday, [...]

Have you ever heard of Etsy? After a tour of the company’s corporate headquarters in Brooklyn, I have much more hope that great jobs are possible — if we can create them for ourselves. Wait ’til you see my photos! But first some background. Etsy was founded six years ago by Rob Kalin. He was a [...]

You never know what skills might be useful. And since I just had the crazy chance to witness a food-eating contest up close, here are tips on gorging to win. The occasion was the 2011 NYC Dumpling Festival, held this past Saturday at Sara D. Roosevelt Park in Lower Manhattan. Some 3,000 people paid $20 apiece to [...]

What a tough summer of terrible weather. And we just went through another 9/11 — always difficult. If dealing with these events wasn’t enough, the economic geniuses are predicting another recession. We already know that poverty in the U.S. is at its highest level since 1983. So there’s only one possible way to respond…… Join [...]

My delicious homemade salad dressing is a godsend for the busy, thrifty, food-loving cook. If you like it, expect to splash it on more than just salads. I am proud to say that my dressing can instantly jazz even the most boring, simple meal.  :) This dressing is also good for the allergy prone and [...]

CHENNAI, INDIA — For the next three weeks, my daughter and I will be traveling around southern Indian with New York friends who have gone “back home” to visit with family. As you can imagine, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to see this country through the eyes of people who really love it. [...]

Just got back from a week in L.A. Haven’t been there in years, not since I was a wife of an executive traveling on expense account. But I’m happy to report that this city can still be fun on a budget!

For July 4th, I hauled my daughter and one of her friends up to Woodstock, N.Y. This town is more country hip than true hippie. But it was fun — especially since it’s so hard to get my teenager to spend time with me these days.

As of this post, my redesigned blog is up and running on this new site! And here is my first post, about being on vacation now on Sanibel Island, Fl. It’s beautiful. Being here has reminded me that I’m still beautiful too.

I just bought a new camera and a new camcorder! Even though I’m not gadget-y, learning these two tools will be exciting. Yes, expect better photos on this website. I also have fantasies of posting videos about our cats…I know what you’re thinking, that I’ve been single too long and have turned into a cat [...]

I’m trying out a free online dating website called PlentyofFish. It’s been interesting. Brightened up the start of 2010 for me.

I love Queen Helene facial masks. They costs less than five bucks a tube and last forever. Easy to use and fast too. When my marriage and bank account went bust, the Queen kept me looking good.

I’ve got great work-out solutions. Do it online! Here are two great sites, one for yoga lessons, the other for salsa dance lessons. I swear by them both.
